Last week I caught up with local Melbourne band Amber Isles for a quick photo session. They were after some new media release shots for an upcoming E.P. launch. We decided to keep things simple & shoot at their rehearsal studio in Fitzroy.
For anyone who's ever been in rented rehearsal studios you'll know there's generally not enough room to swing a decent sized mouse let alone a cat. So when I found out the studio is above a warehouse workspace of a sculptors collective... and the warehouse owner was totally cool with us using the area!?! Well you can just imagine my glee.
With soft evening light falling through the skylights I suggested we start things off gently with some natural light portraits. Starting off this way helps people get used to the camera & I much prefer a gradual approach to a session rather than starting off with all lights blazing.
As the evening started to fade & peeps were becoming comfortable I decided to bring out the lights and turn the mood level up a notch. Or Three.
Now we were in full swing. We ventured outside.
Confident as all get out. Ready and prepared to dodge cars, cyclists or dealers at a moments notice. All in search to make that one elusive group shot.
P.S. To Max, Adam, Penny & Sam: You guys were so into making this happen. It was a real pleasure working with you. Thanks for for being such champs.
